Afghan Belt. i am told this is part of a belt worn by pregnant Pashtun women. This claim is reinforced by the buttons on one end. Whatever the origin, it is tightly knotted. so much so that warp and weft is distorted at one end. The weaver clearly was putting a lot of effort into this piece. Some dye run-over from the black cloth onto the back of the decorative knotted portion. Colors are dense and bright. Likely all synthetic. a ver interesting ethnographic selection
