a very early and extremly rare 5-6th century central asian embroidered silk quiver fragment. this an opportuity for saving the cost of a c14 analyse as there is a published silk fragment of exactly the same group, with the same two layers of brown silk fabric and also the faded blue or green chain-stiches silk. please see "pre-islamic carpets and textiles from eastern lands, friedrich spuhler 2014, the al-sabah collection, kuwait". this date is also confirmed by the silk attached at the top end with zoomorphic design, possibly lions. those who are familiar with the subject will undoubtely recognise this typical northern dynasties design. the "sun and moon" like design, the main design of this fragment , can be found throughout centuries after this time from central asia up to turkey where it embellish some of the famous ottoman court silks. the lenght is 70cm and the whole fabric is in a very good stable state of conservation with a very soft handle.
