Man's mantle, hinggi. East-Sumba, Indonesia, 1950s. Large fighting cocks (or dragons?), horses, fish, lions, cockatoos, snakes, and skull trees in white, morinda red, two shades of purplish black. Centre field with patola ratu pattern. Decorative cloth with bold figures. No woven borders, which suggest that cloth was not intended to be used as attire (for the time being). Modest fading has softened the tones. Similar in overall design and selection of motifs to early 20th c. hinggi in Khan-Majlis, Indonesische Textilien, Fig. 410, except that here roosters are substituted for lobsters.
