This tranquil old Maio textile has a timeless, graceful quality about it with a latticework design reminiscent of stained glass. Probably a bed cover, it measures 50 x 62 inches including the deep indigo dyed cloth border. Its pieced, appliquéd central panel is 34.5 x 46.5 inches. This piece strikes me as quite old for a Miao textile and judging by the soft patina and good dyes, it must date to the 19th century. i suspect it could be a top piece. For my aesthetic at least, this is as good as i have seen and a very satisfying textile to live with.
