Back
Mid 19th c. Ersari trapping / fragment.
Almost one full gol is missing in the center. The border on top is constructed by using border segments (3), from the missing center. Now, all that said, the thing is just incredible. Hyperbole? ........i think not! ;-)) has the handle and feel of a Salor weaving, not this floppy "so called" Ersari weaving of the second half of the 19th c., but real structure and a super saturated classic Turkmen red! The back is only very slightly depressed, but still gives the sense of being "ribbed". It is in weavings like this that you can see the close ancestry of the Salor and the Ersari. It makes me wonder if the piecde might not be a bit older than i think. In any case it is beautiful, and the white cotton piling doesn't hurt?
