Antique Bijar Kilim, Early 20th century. Exceptional state of preservation. This antique flatweave from northwest Persia artfully blends formal Persian notions of space and proportion with folk elements from village weaving traditions. The diamond medallion is well spaced and beautifully articulated and appears to float against a bold empty madder red field. The most striking aspect of the drawing, however, is the pair of Persian, 'mah cheragh' or 'moon-lit' faces peering out from the centers of each anchor.Size = 4'2" x 8'10". Inv. # 14828.
