very worn, very early, very rare. very interesting. a 75x 133cm chinese rug, most probably a sleeping rug, and possibly one of those carried originally by the travelling rider. wonderfully drawn large scale lotus border which still shows the fantastic quality of the wool and these 2 shiny blue colors. please note the larger border at both ends. most unusual is the field design with its intriguing center guli-medaillion. for those who are not afraid by the ghostly look of such things, it still has a great presence (difficult to catch with the camera) and it possibly belongs to china earliest provincial pile weaving still available. cotton and wool weft, before 1700 and possibly a late ming era rug.
