Pre-Columbian Textile Fragment. Huari Culture, c. 500-800 a.d. a small fragment, probably a remnant from a burial mantle. The creature most likely depicts a jaguar, a common pre-Columbian weaving motif. Very finely woven, the red is an insect dye, presumably cochineal. Mounted on linen attached to stretcher bars. Fragment size: approx. 5" x 5", stretcher size 8" x 8".
