Carved Wari period figure with a four-cornered hat. This beautifully detailed, small Pre-Columbian wood carving was probably a stopper for some kind of container either wood, stone or ceramic. Such a container might have been made to hold psychotropic snuffs, powdered pigments or herbal concoctions. The graphic depiction of the four-cornered hat and details of his ear spool ornaments and hair braids give an accurate picture or an elite Andean male from the highland Wari culture c.(A.D. 500 - 800). Also see another, less detailed stopper with a figure wearing a round, possibly turban-like hat and a small grouping of other carved wooden implements - spoons and a pigment tray - the largest of which is 7 inches tall.
