An extremely rare and unusual small Baluch rug from late 19th century. 3’.9” x 2’.3” The use of highly unusual “surmai” color and the hand spun cotton warps make it a very desirable object of art. The two large herds of goats on either side of the field with “Holbein” influenced medallions and minor Gil’s or secondary medallions with inscription like excecution makes this a unique little gem, in my opinion. The dyes are well saturated in the extremely soft and lustrous Pashmina wool. The sides originally wrapped with goat hair are well preserved. Remnants of the original killim end finish is visible on the top end. Untouched condition, minor stabilizing on the ends, no repairs. Use of few knots in deeply saturated Cochineal dye. Very minor residue of double sided tape on the reverse, as shown in the photos. A very desirable small Baluch weaving, exceedingly hard to find.
