#7464 Mudjur This probably 18th century, possibly older Mudjur (Mucur) measures 3’9” x 5’3” (118 x 161 cm). This little prayer rug displays beautiful colors. The tomato red step prayer field outlined in green, ivory and aubergine rises into incredibly saturated green spandrels containing tomato red ewers with combs above them and a nicely drawn rhomboid with a cross motif in ivory, aubergine and red, topped off with a crossbar containing four beautifully drawn gables. The rug is enclosed with two equally pleasing major borders. The inner one consisting of diamond cartouches on a well saturated blue ground with a nice lighter blue abrash about half way down. The outer major border has a modified plane leaf motif on a yellow ground. This motif in Mudjur is unique to this rug. i have not been able to find another example of it. The outer border is composed of stylized roses and carnations on an aubergine ground. The rug is woven against the design. This rug is in ‘as found’ condition and is in my opinion one of the most beautifully drawn rugs i have ever seen.
