berber child's bonnet In southern Morocco the French term "bonnet d'enfant" is still used to describe these hats which are worn by very young children in the cold weather. They are handed down in the family, sometimes for decades, and seldom appear for sale. The background of this rare piece is fine black cotton upon which very intricate Berber designs have been embroidered. It still has most of the original tassels. It belonged to a Berber family in the Djebel Siroua in southern Morocco. Similar pieces are shown in plates 278-9 in "Splendeurs du Maroc". There is a very similar example in the Musee Berbere in Marrakech. Reference 2583. Size 45 x 23cms. 1ft.6in. x 9ins. when folded. Euros 195.
