Fine Antique Amritsar Rug Region: Northern India Size 1.79m x 1.25m Circa 1880 This is an extremely finely woven rug with a classic ‘mihrab’/’niche prayer rug’ design. The weave and beautiful patina evident in the rug suggests a Persian origin. However, the unusual colour palette and high quality of materials and workmanship belie the fact that the rug is actually woven in Amritsar, India in the latter half of the 19th century.
