Antique Ersari Turkmen ensi of traditional design with excellent colour. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Size: 5ft 4in x 4ft 4in (162 x 128cm).
Circa 1880.
Ensi were door hangings used to cover the entrance to a yurt.
This example is woven with a traditional Ersari design; the four panels in the middle are said to be the windows to Paradise, these are filled with bird heads. This example has a superb colour palette with a soft madder red and highlights in yellow and ivory. The bottom elem panel is dark brown and contains the crossed leaf design.
The ensi is in good condition with slight even wear and good pile.
The ensi has been hand washed and is ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
