Beautiful antique Ottoman Greek embroidery arched prayer panel known as a quibla. It is composed of various antique Ottoman Greek and Anatolian embroideries in order to create a prayer mat, which are probably from the 19th with some possibly earlier. Qiblas / Qiblehs were primarily used by women to hang on the wall of a house or a tent during prayer. For a discussion on qiblas, see Roderick Taylor, “Ottoman Embroidery”, Interlink Books, New York, 1993, pp. 133-139. Good condition for age with some stains, embroidery thread loss, some bleeding of some pink dyes, small repairs and wear/holes to linen base areas(Some of them may be original as old worn pieces were re-purposed for these qiblas.). The most fragile pieces have been backed with a satin fabric. The center sags a bit when hung. Originally, it may have had a linen or cotton fabric back lining.
