s.w. Iran Arabic ( khamseh ) Salt Bag This is a delightful Arabic Salt Bag or Namakdan. It is made with a white cotton field with naturally dyed woollen soumak or needlework motifs which include birds, trees and botteh headed figures. The unseen warp to the cotton areas is wool. The orange is analine and felt tip has been used in place of some areas of missing soumak but this is still a beautiful ethnographic piece.
