Back
Central Asian, most likely Kirghiz, leather and felt. Not sure what this is, but most likely an animal trapping, perhaps a decorated pad for saddle or harness. The face is thin leather (probably sheep skin leather) with the design cut out, and then appliqued onto red cloth, which shows behind the design. It is padded on the back with thick felt--looks like pieced-together scraps of crude felt, maybe something left over from yurt making. The edge is finished with a narrow warp-faced band; notice how this warp-faced design ends at the lower left corner and becomes a six-cord braid on the left side. Nice blue macrame across the bottom, ending with double-stemmed tassels. It is 22 inches wide and about 8 inches high including tassels.
