i am posting this piece again as i was very dissatisfied with the original photos; hopefully these are better?! Early Adiyaman Kurd / 1st Qtr 19th c. i am calling it Adiyaman, as that is what Dr. Boemer calls the similar one that he has in his book with Bruggeman, pl. 92, page 293. It is finely woven and really focussed on color! You will see the exact same rug in the 5 volume set of Vakiflar rugs published by the Turkish Ministry of Culture; vol. 5, pl# 0595. The rug is early 19th century, and so is this one. The weave on mine is incredible and the pile is full and lush in most places, which is a must for these rugs. On this one the side guards have been restored on both sides. In the Vakiflar catalogue it attributes the rug to a "private collection"; so i am pretty sure that as it shows up again in "Boemer", it may be the editor's rug! To me, this rug is all about color, and specifically the relation ship between the colors blue and red. Even in the one gol where she makes just half of it with this amazing red, she does the other half in Lilac. There are at least 5 different hues of purple / violet in this rug, and all are wonderful! Also, the weave is just amazing in it's quality and precission. The woman who made this was really an artist and she was "anticipating" 20th century modernism with her use of color,,,,in my opinion,,,,,,, or rather this is what those artists were inspired by? size: 8' x 3'2".
