Karagashli Caucasian Prayer Rug; ca 1875; 4’2” x 6’3” / 127 x 190 cm. Rich emerald green reentrant field with a concentric 8-sided medallion arrangement and symmetrical pairs of hooked squares in red with paired animal heads in blue. At the top of the mihrab and the reentrant reserve, hooked diamonds. Main border composed of birds’ heads “hashtag” in white octagons. Secondary border, hooked leaves and “wine-glass”.
