Two Inca period coca bags. a.d. 1400 - 1532. These two small, interesting coca bags were woven in different structures. The smaller of the two bags is a rare, classic Incan tapestry weave with a completely different design on the opposite face of the bag. The green ground bag is fine and delicately woven in a complimentary warp-faced weave. Coca bags were meant to contain sacred coca leaves a necessity for all social and ceremonial occasions in the high Andes. Because of the importance of coca these bags were special weavings for the Andean people and lavish time was spent in their creation. Both are charming examples in good condition. The size of smallest bag is 4 x 4.25 inches. Additional information and images upon request.
