a small nwp rug, likely Kurdish. 51” x 39” (130 cm x 99 cm). Very good condition. Dense thick pile. The field has a rare tessellated (repeating) design that I’ve seen on a few bag faces but rarely on rugs. All good stable natural colors, except that one of the incomplete botehs at the bottom edge of the field that appears as white on the front is a lavender or purple on the back (see the last two images)---this is most likely the early synthetic dye mauvene. So far as i can see, this single partial boteh is the only use of this synthetic dye (about 60 knots altogether). The selvage finish is a black hair---goat probably—and is wearing enough to have some loose ends sticking out. Flatweave remaining at both ends.
