Antique Caucasian Talish Rug Runner 3'4' 'x 9'4'' Lenkoran dragon medallion design Circa 1875 Strikingly beautiful antique Caucasian Talish runner with classic “dragon” medallions from the Lenkoran area. 3 feet 4 inches by 9 feet 4 inches (102 x 285 cm). Circa 1875 and in excellent condition for its age. Fine weave; thinly clipped pile with a soft handle. 100% vegetable dyes. (Slight loss of brown dye in one figure; see photo.) a beautiful color combination - colors: indigo and a lighter grey-blue, red, apricot and a lighter peach, cream, brown, dark brownish-black, pale yellow. The Talish carpet received its name from the large region stretched along the Talish mountains, by the coast of the Caspian Sea. It is a well known carpet type. The middle field of carpet, which is known as Talish, happens to be of both a simple and complicated composition. Hand-woven 100% wool.
