Textile used as cape for a life size Saint - San Jorge in this case Bought from village priest after devastating earthquake in Guatemala, February 1976. Priest sold items from the church to get funds for reconstruction. A Capa de Santo - extremely rare. Only had been used for religious purposes and washed only a limited number of times during decades. Dating from around 1920-30. Red cotton ground cloth with spare use of silk brocade, with silk join in center. Minimalist aesthetic with very high Ethnographic value. True collectors piece. Collected by Robert Morris in village of San Jorge La Laguna - near to Solola, Guatemala. rare 53 x 57 inches (132 x 145 cm )
