yamout turkoman boksche. Of the five major Turkoman tribes it appears that only the Yamout weave this special shape of bag, and even then most of them are with knotted pile as opposed to this rare example in felt. The square shape suggests a specific purpose and the most likeky is the transport of round flat breads which fit perfectly. The flap and front section are all embroidered with floral or tree forms and the colours of the embroidery wool used are typical of the Yamout. Piled examples can be seen in major text books but references to those made in felt are rare. Reference 2761. Size 50 x 48 cms., or 20 x 19 ins. Euros 385.
