Dancing kerchief fragment cod. 0330. One of the items posted on my new website www.nonplusultra.cloud. Raffia and natural pigments. Dida people. Ivory Coast. First half 20th. century. Very good condition. Cm. 71 x 72 ( 2'4" x 2'4").Sewn onto a cotton ground and mounted on a wooden stretcher frame. This cloth is woven from fiber gathered from the raffia palm and patterned by the tie-dye technique often known by its Japanese name of shibori (or palangi in Indonesian) dyed using hundreds of stitches to form a resist, and a series of dips and a release technique. The dyes are all natural- using plant and root dyes.Has an extremely textural form, which is rare.
