Jewelry Auction Nov 30, 2016: Islamic Intaglio Ring with Boar (Est: $4,000/$6,000). Oval bezel composed of stamped sheet gold, the shoulders shaped in double spirals and palmettes. The decorative sprue at the base of the hoop is typical of Islamic rings, and originally this feature was a remnant from casting rings. Islamic goldsmiths utilized this as an ornament. The intaglio bearing the graceful image of a standing wild boar is likely of an earlier date, possibly Sassanian.
