Letter box, Japan. Wood, lacquer, Late 19th century 9" (22.8 cm) wide by 5.5" (14 cm) high by 2" (5 cm) deep. A box used to hold letters is adorned with the branches of a tree where a small finch perches among the leaves of fall. In good shape with a bit of scuffing around the edges and a stable crack in one corner.
