This is a Chodor Turkmen main carpet with a classic Ertmen gul field. While quite a few of these nineteenth century Central Asian tribal carpets survive into our time, this example is more interesting than most of the type with many individualizing features of drawing within the guls and throughout the field and border system. The lattice drawing of the field is repeated within the border and the large ashik ornament of the field is repeated in smaller diagonal form in both elems. The madder field has hints of both aubergine and brick. This piece has a soft handle and there is cotton in the weft. Size = 6' x11'.
