19th c. complete Malatya dowry heybe from Sinan, one of the tribal villages now under the Karajaya dam. This particular finely woven design with sideways, Kurdish style interlocking figures in the borders above the guls, was specific to this village. Woven in kilim technique using fine hand-spun wool, silver bound thread and silk. The closing loops are plaited fine black and white goat hair.
Dowry chuvals from this area used silver thread in the same way between about 1880 and 1910. a lovely collectible example in very good original condition with just a hole in the top left of one bag face and bottom left corner. 130cm x 64cm
