Here is a beautiful old Shakhrysabs Uzbek embroidered purse. These little "Coin Purses" were made by Uzbek women of all ranks, for personal use or to be sold for extra income. This little purse measures 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" and is in excellent condition with no wear or damage at all. These little purses are most often decorated with geometric designs which lend itself to the cross-stitch the women use, as we see here. The colors are deep and rich with a rich mahogany silk in the central medallion and in the branches, a soft red/mahogany in some of the highlights, beautiful mint/green silk as an outline color, a rich lac purple as secondayr boteh pattern in the centrail medallion, a slate blue/grey as highlight and white used as an outline color, all of this is on a rich gold background. The colors are all derived from natural dyes. These purses are usually souble sided but this one has an old ikat fragment for a back, likely the other side was badly worn or damaged. Because of the drawing and colors i would date this little purse to the late 19th. Century. This purse is a real gem and a collectable museum piece of Contrail Asian embroidery. free shipping in the usa only.
