Large bowl, chqâla. Nabeul, Tunisia. These were used at family dinners, often containing the couscous. It is said that the fish motif and the yellow/green colors symbolize water and freedom. 16.5” in diameter, 6” high (42 x 15 cm). Second third of the 20th century. In very good condition but for a little glaze loss on the fish and some edge chips; the gray paint on the underside was removed post-photo.
