Saltbag, Southern Caucasus/North-west Persia, probably work of the Shahsavan, 46 x 36 cms, pile front, flatweave back; the central motif of this piece (appearing on the neck and the body) can be seen in a carpet attributed to the Shirvan area (Burns, “The Caucasus – Traditions in Weaving”, pl.22); some well-done repairs on the shoulders, cross wrapping on edges is not original.
