INTRODUCTION

These pictures are of five rugs in a group of seven that disappeared in a checked bag between Frankfurt and Istanbul on April 12, 2007. The weight of evidence provided by Lufthansa, including that the bag was scanned into a container at Franfurt for the Istanbul flight, suggests theft in Istanbul either between the plane and the conveyor belt or off the conveyor belt before I entered the arrival hall. When it left the US, the soft bag was clearly labeled with my name and address and locked with a TSA-approved lock. Another checked bag, similarly labeled and locked, arrived safely.

The two rugs for which digital images are lacking include a late Baluch balisht with a complete back, and a late 19th C. Uzbek chuval with a purply red ground and very soft handle.

A reward is being offered for their safe return, no questions asked.
